Pat Falk is a Professor of English at Nassau Community College in Garden City, New
York where she teaches writing, literature, and women’s studies. She was educated at the
City University of New York, and publishes poetry, memoir, essays and reviews. She’s
the author of three collections of poetry, In the Shape of a Woman, Crazy Jane, and the
forthcoming A Common Violence; the literary memoir, It Happens As We Speak; and she
edited the anthology Sightings: Poems on Discovery.
Among her awards are two Faculty Distinguished Achievement Awards, a City
University of New York graduate fellowship, a Vermont Studio Center Writer’s Grant,
the SUNY Chancellor’s Award for Creative Work, and poetry awards from The National
League of American Pen Women, Black Bear Review, The National Writer's Voice
Project, Many Mountains Moving, and the Pushcart Press.
Her work has appeared in several literary journals including The New York Times Book
Review, Thirteenth Moon, The Mickle Street Review, and Women Artists News. She’s
listed in Poets & Writers Directory of American Poets and Fiction Writers, NCC's
Speaker's Bureau, and is a frequent reader and workshop leader in the New York tri-state
area. Her research and activism concern human rights, global ecology, and the integrity
of all life in the industrial and institutional settings.
